Los cabos hotel tour

During our trip to Los Cabos, I chose to spend a day looking into other resorts I thought would be appealing to clients, and the time spent was well worth it. While One&Only Palmilla has our hearts, the resorts below are all incredibly special as well. It goes without saying that each of the below have beautiful pools (adults and family), incredible spas, and first-rate service. I’ve chosen to highlight what I think is notable about each property but the baseline is always that the resort is highly recommended and has amenities and service that shrewd travelers would expect. By booking through Avantia Luxe, preferred amenities and stature are available, and I’d love to help your family experience this destination in style.

Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

Zadún was the first stop, and it set an incredibly high bar. This resort is amazing. The Ritz-Carlton Reserve ethos is all about being authentic to the area and bringing in the local culture at every turn, and the thoughtful local touches throughout the resort gave it a special feel. The resort was built in 2018, and everything is still in pristine condition. The aesthetics are modern without being stark, and the rooms are among the best I’ve ever seen. Entry level rooms start at a very generous 750 square feet, and plunge pools are featured in most room categories. Personal attendants, or “tosoanis” are assigned to each room as well so you can expect excellent personalized service. Zadún has wonderful beach access, and while the beach isn’t technically private, it’s in a very secluded area where the public generally doesn’t go. I was particularly impressed with the onsite kids club, which is run by naturalists from the Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment and offers opportunities for caretakers to join in select activities with their children as well. There are three onsite dinner restaurants, Humo (a South American grill), El Barrio (elevated Mexican fare), and Equis (ocean to table cuisine). One of the most exciting developments at Zadún is the recent conversion of their spa to Sensei, the third location of this incredible brand. Sensei’s mantra is “Wellbeing Guided by Knowledge”, and treatments are formulated based on scientific findings. The physical spa is beautiful and truly looks like a desert oasis, and one could easily spend the entire day enjoying it. Golf is also an option here, with the prestigious 27-hole Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus designed Puerto Los Cabos course nearby.

Chileno Bay, Auberge Resorts Collection

Auberge is one of my favorite hotel brands, and Chileno Bay reconfirms my affection. This swanky resort opened in 2017, and while it caters to families, I think it’s an excellent choice for adult getaways as well. This resort has so many guestroom options, from single guestrooms and suites to multi-bedroom villas, and guests can combine almost any room or villa type to get the number of bedrooms needed. It’s a very manageable property; golf carts are available to whisk you to the pool or swimmable beach but it’s not necessary. The onsite restaurants should satisfy discerning guests with Comal (also a fabulous option for evening cocktails with friends) which features elevated Baja peninsula cuisine, and Yaya, a welcoming Mediterranean-Latin American fusion eatery. Water sports are easily accessible as Chileno Bay is right on the beach, and you can channel your inner Leonardo DiCaprio and try out an eFoil. Golfers also enjoy access to the private members only Chileno Bay Club championship golf course. Designed by Tom Fazio, there are gorgeous sea views from every hole.

Montage Los Cabos

Montage is another reliably fantastic brand, and this property was up to brand standards. As with Chileno Bay, the sleeping room flexibility here is incredible. The entry level king room is almost 900 square feet, and it only goes up from there. There are one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites, connecting rooms, as well as private residences and the especially wonderful casas, which range from three to five bedrooms and feature their own private infinity edge pools along with other special perks including an exclusive family barbecue night offered once per stay. One huge perk for golfers – Montage guests have access to the prestigious Fred Couples designed Twin Dolphin Golf Club located basically across the street. The 40,000 square foot spa is, as expected, completely divine and features a serene adults-only pool with accompanying cabanas. Onsite restaurants offer varied options including steak, seafood, sushi, and the very interesting Talay, a Thai restaurant inspired by food truck culture. Another unique feature of Montage that I really loved was their onsite adventure center, Compass Sports. All excursions are handled directly with Compass (owned by Montage) assuring top quality and excellent service. If there are divers in your group, Montage is the only certified 5-star PADI Resort in Los Cabos, and they feature a unique night diving expedition in Santa Maria Bay, right off the swimmable beach on Montage’s doorstep. This resort is a fantastic option for couples or families, particularly those with an adventurous streak.

Waldorf Astoria Pedregal

Pedregal is located at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. It is very close to the Cabo San Lucas marina, so if your group is interested in deep sea fishing or catamaran cruising or any other water activity, this is an extremely convenient location. Pedregal has a very loyal client base and is consistently rated among the favorite resorts in the area. Forbes ranked both the hotel and the spa five stars, and one of its onsite restaurants, El Farallon, is a Michelin two star as well. Every single room features a plunge pool and ocean view, and the hotel sits right on a sandy beach. While the surf is too rough for swimming, whales are known to swim right up to the beach; having seen how close the hotel sits to the ocean, I imagine this makes for an incredible sight. What struck me about Pedregal was the warmth we experienced from the staff while there. They are all clearly incredibly proud of their property, and it shows.

Los Cabos is brimming with first class resorts, and more amazing properties are on the way in 2025 and 2026, including Park Hyatt, St. Regis, Amanvari, and Soho House. This fantastic destination checks so many boxes - spa, golf, foodie, water sports, land adventure, shopping, culture, and more - and there is obviously no shortage of places to stay. Please reach out when you’re ready to plan a Cabo getaway!
