Kenya & Rwanda

10 nights · Nairobi, Masai Mara, Kigali & Volcanoes National Park

Two of Africa's great wildlife encounters in one seamless journey. First the open plains of the Masai Mara, alive with lions, elephants and the vast herds. Then the misty volcanic forests of Rwanda, where you'll spend an unforgettable hour in the company of mountain gorillas.

Day 1 - Nairobi · You're met on arrival and assisted through customs and immigration. Settle into a suite at Hemingways Nairobi, a boutique all-suite hotel with butler service in verdant Karen, between the Ngong Hills and Nairobi National Park.

Day 2-5 - Masai Mara · A light aircraft drops you into the Mara Triangle, the reserve's most exclusive corner, where far fewer vehicles mean more intimate sightings. Wilderness Mara has just 12 tented suites on the edge of a marsh, and rare access to both banks of the Mara River. Dawn and dusk game drives seek out lions, black rhino and, in season, the Great Migration. Between them: the spa, the pool, an in-camp photography studio, or a visit to a Maasai village. Sundowners follow as the light fades behind the Oloololo Escarpment.

Day 6 - Kigali · Fly on to Rwanda and a Luxury Pool Villa at Hemingways Retreat, a solar-powered garden hideaway with its own plunge pool. A private city tour takes in Kigali's markets and the deeply moving Genocide Memorial.

Day 7-10 - Volcanoes National Park · Wilderness Bisate sits within the amphitheatre of an ancient volcanic cone. Its six Forest Villas look out to the peaks of Bisoke and Karisimbi. With expert trackers, climb through bamboo and montane forest to find a habituated gorilla family, then spend a quiet hour in their presence. Other days might bring golden monkeys, a hike to Dian Fossey's grave, or planting trees in Bisate's reforestation project.
